This will be a friendly and informal course, aimed at complete beginners and those with some experience. Among other starting points, you will use the beautiful environment of Ammerdown as an inspiration for your work.
Watercolour is always thought of as the hardest paint to master and indeed, it can be challenging! But it is also a very exciting medium and the results and rewards are well worth it.You will look at the work of different artists to see just how varied the results can be.
Jos focuses very much on the fundamental principles of drawing and painting: line, tone, texture, shape, form, colour and composition. This will underpin a series of sessions, each one building on what has been learned in the previous one. She will guide you through the basics of colour mixing, different surfaces and a wide range of watercolour appliction techniques in order for you to gain confidence. You will develop a good understanding of these core skills before exploring how other materials can be used with watercolour in order to enhance work and begin to develop more personal styles. There will also be plenty of time to experiment.
Even if you haven’t drawn or painted since you were at school, you will soon be pleased with what you can do! Come and explore, you will get plenty of individual guidance, encouragement and support, and you will be able to work at your own pace.
Jos Blake is a fully qualified art teacher with 25 years of experience teaching art to 11-18 year olds in schools in London, Luton and the South West. For the past six years she has been teaching adults, running a continual programme of lessons to an ever increasing number of students! She also regularly teaches at the Society for Disabled Artists and runs full-day sessions focussing on a particular medium or technique.
Places are limited, therefore book early to avoid disappointment.
