Chinese Brush Painting 2018

You will learn about the symbolism attached to this fascinating subject and you will be able to mount your work, ready for display. Maggie Cross spent her childhood in Hong Kong, where she studied brush painting and also learnt to speak Cantonese and write Chinese

characters. She is a member of The Chinese Brush Painters’ Society and the Society of Floral Painters. She regularly exhibits her work and also frequently lectures and teaches on the subject. She has published three books.

Maximum number 12, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Participants will be given a list of basic items to bring. Traditional brush painting materials will be available for loan or sale from the tutor. Maggie will also be here from the 18 to 23 November covering ‘Winter Landscapes’.

Summer Flowers with birds and insects

Please arrive by 12 noon on Monday. Course ends with lunch on Friday.

May is a glorious time of year for flowers and during this course you will have the opportunity to paint the more familiar western flowers as well as traditional Chinese ones, with the addition of a suitable bird or insect to complete your composition. Winter Landscapes

Maggie Cross is back with is us this autumn, and during this course you will paint traditional Chinese landscapes using Chinese materials and techniques. However, there will also be an opportunity to paint a western landscape in the Chinese style. If you have photographs, please bring them along and Maggie will explain how to depict them in the Chinese style. There will also be a chance to experiment with some more innovative techniques such as resins, and collage and washes. You will be able to mount your finished composition for display. Suitable for all levels of ability.
