Mindfulness Amongst the Christian Desert Mothers and Fathers

We are pleased to welcome Liz Watson, (a friend and colleague of Kim Nataraja, who previously led retreats at Ammerdown).

The mindfulness practices now popular in a secular context can be the beginnings of a life-long journey into the heart of reality, the mind of Christ. Our mentors for the weekend will be ‘The Desert Mothers and Fathers’, men and women from the 4th century who were spiritual pioneers of Christianity at that time. They were seeking God in the Egyptian desert, removed from the distractions of city life and the compromises of the institutionalised church. Living in solitude or in community, they learned how to calm the mind and find freedom from turbulent emotions; they understood what it means to move from self-centredness to self-giving love. Together we will mine the insights of our mentors, spend time in meditation, and practice mindful reading of the Scriptures.

Liz Watson is a long-standing member of The World Community for Christian Meditation, teaching meditation and the Christian mystical tradition in meditation groups, courses, and retreats.

Led by: Liz Watson

Please arrive by 6m on Friday. Retreat ends with lunch on Sunday.
