The Loving Kindness of Your Youth

What do Jeremiah and Huldah teach us about truth and conveying God’s words to those who listen and those who don’t?

During the weekend we will study Jeremiah and Huldah and see what their lives, prophecies and writings teach us about their times, the role of the prophet and knowledge of God. Jeremiah exhorted the people to repentance and suffered the agony of not being heard, knowing the fate that would befall them if they did not. Tradition holds him to be the author of the book of Lamentations, a moving poem on Jerusalem’s destruction. Huldah authenticated a scroll, discovered while the temple was being repaired and her story shows us tantalising possibilities about a woman’s role in her time.

Rabbi Rachel Montagu studied for rabbinic ordination at Leo Baeck College, London and Machon Pardes, Jerusalem. She has an MA in Biblical Studies from Heythrop College and teaches Biblical Hebrew at City Lit, Ealing Abbey and the Sion Centre for Dialogue and Encounter. “Interacted with the group extremely well, explaining in detail to any question asked. Shared her most impressive depth of scholarship & knowledge with us with both skill and clarity.” (Participant 2017)
