The inaugural Rosalie Hanley NDS Conversation, Box Hill, Australia

16 December 2024

The conversation between Rabbi Jacqueline Ninio OAM and Sr Mary Reaburn NDS centred around Sr Marys book: A Friendly Guide to Jewish-Christian Dialogue (Garratt, 2024).

The event, held on 17 November 2024, is available on the CCJ Vic YouTube channel.

Rabbi Ninio was ordained in 1998, becoming the seventh Australian-born progressive rabbi and the third Australian-born female rabbi in the progressive tradition. She joined Emanuel Synagogue in 1998 and is the congregation’s first female rabbi.

Sr Mary currently teaches at Yarra Theological Union (YTU) in Box Hill, Australia. She is a member of the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Council for Ecumenism and Religious Relations with Jews and was involved for seven years in the Centre for Biblical Formation in Jerusalem. Mary is also author of A Friendly Guide to the Book of Psalms in Garratt Publishing’s “Friendly Guide” series.

Sr Rosalie Hanley, after whom the new annual conversations are named, was actively involved in Jewish Christian dialogue in Melbourne and Sydney, and spent many years working with refugees, giving them hope and friendship and enabling them to begin a new life in Australia.
