The Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Sion is united with all in prayers and actions for peace in Ukraine. We echo Pope Francis’s words: “Put down your weapons!” and “Let us not stop talking; indeed, let us pray to God more intensely”. And we join him in his call for a universal day of prayer and fasting on 2 March.
Our Sisters in neighbouring countries and beyond are moved by the expressions of solidarity they are witnessing.
As well as demonstrations, fundraising events and prayer vigils, people and organisations, including those the Sisters work in, are rallying together to support those fleeing the violence directly. The response includes providing for basic needs such as clothing, food and basic hygiene, medical care, transport and language interpretation.
As a congregation, we pray in thanksgiving for those who are reaching out to help, moving beyond fear, to be present to those affected with courage and generosity.
We continue to pray for the people of Ukraine and the surrounding regions, and for those suffering in ongoing conflicts in all parts of the world.
