Centro de Estudios Bíblicos y de Relaciones Judeo Cristianas
CERJUC (pronounced “ser-hook”) is an education and resource centre that’s one of its kind in Central America. As a centre for Biblical study and Jewish-Christian relations, it offers programmes and workshops in Bible study, Biblical Hebrew and Biblical liturgy, as well as supplementary reading material and a specialised library. CERJUC is a highly engaged player in interfaith and ecumenical relations in Costa Rica.
The centre runs both day and evening programmes in Spanish, led by staff and guest teachers. The aim is to give the whole community access to a participation-based learning environment, to enhance their faith, hope and solidarity. Activities range from short courses over one or two months to four-month modules as a part of a three-year programme. Some courses are validated by exams or group presentations and require home study.
Most of CERJUC’s courses are held onsite in the centre in Moravia, San José, and can be joined virtually by videoconference. Some workshops are brought to parishes and held at the sites of the Congregation or partner institutes.
From a perspective of Jewish-Christian connection, the study programmes address a wide range of themes, such as basic Biblical formation, the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament, Biblical Hebrew, and other Biblical and theological topics that have a bearing on the world today.
