Ecole Bilingue Notre-Dame de Sion, Quebec, Canada

A sense of responsibility to their community and a capacity to shape their society

EBNDS offers students a values-based education that develops their sense of responsibility to their community and their capacity to shape their society. Every day in the classrooms and hallways, students and staff live out the mission of academic excellence, coupled with the values of respect, openness and compassion on which Sion was founded.

The school is a small community of 325 students, where each one receives support and personal attention for values to take root.

EBNDS combines academic excellence, bilingual French and English programming, and a caring environment that celebrates more than just high academic standards. Not only do the students acquire an exceptional academic base, they develop a lifelong appreciation for the values of respect, interdependence and diversity.

The goals of EBNDS’s educational program align with the school’s core values to: promote respect for others; facilitate mother-tongue proficiency in both English and French; foster appreciation for cultural diversity and multicultural values; promote an open mind and a spirit of exploration; stimulate curiosity and creativity; develop scientific reasoning; encourage independent thinking; instill a love of learning.

The Sion ethos in the school

At EBNDS, a deep appreciation for multicultural values permeates every aspect of educational programmes.

The students have roots in over forty-five countries, speak more than a dozen languages along with French and English, and practice a variety of distinct religious traditions.

Thanks to the rich cultural tapestry represented within the student body and which gives shape to daily interactions, EBNDS students develop a deep appreciation for multicultural values. The school is a microcosm that reflects Montreal’s rich cultural diversity, a strength that is nurtured with the aim of preparing students to thrive in the global reality of today and tomorrow.

The mission of all Sion schools is to instill in students a deep appreciation of their own faith and culture, as well as a heightened awareness of, respect for, and sensitivity to the beliefs and practices of others.

Sion schools promote the dignity and rights of each person across racial, religious, ethnic and socio-economic differences. EBNDS lives and breathes these values every day.

Social actions

The learning environment at EBNDS conveys the universal values of respect, openness and compassion on a daily basis. Students take part in initiatives to help people in need through fundraising for hospitals, charities and charitable causes.

“I feel right at home – with my friends, as well! I’m accepted as I am and I can talk to everyone in French or English.”
