Their mission had two main purposes: to spend time with some women discerning their vocation in the capital city Kinshasa, and to reconnect with the Sion family community in Kananga.
At the centre of the weekend with the young women in Kinshasa were moments of prayer and sharing of the Word of God, Bible study and getting to know the Sion charism. They attended Mass at local churches and there was also time to meet the women’s families and visit the city, and simply to be in each other’s company.
In Kananga, the sisters offered Bible courses in different formats. Sr Victorine led sessions in Tshiluba, one of the national languages of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sr Kasia taught adults in French, while Sr Cristina and Sr Maricica took care of teenagers and children, also in French. At the end of each day, the participants ate together with the sisters, and there was no lack of moments for relaxation and celebration.
A meeting with the Carmelite sisters in Kananga led to an unscheduled Biblical session, where Sr Kasia shared insights on the Parable of the Unjust Judge (Lk.18,1-8) from the Sion perspective.
Throughout their time in the Congo, the Sion sisters were welcomed by many, and they learned much about the life and spiritual depth present in the region. They left feeling grateful for the opportunity and hopeful for a return visit. “May God sustain us with His presence so that we can continue our mission in this beautiful country”, reflected Sr. Maricica.
