Some "Interpretations" of the Biblical text

SOURCE: EXODUS 12 • THE PASSOVER

In the Passover Festival

In every generation a man must so regard himself as if he came forth himself out of Egypt ... Therefore we are bound to give thanks, to praise, to glorify, to honour, to exalt, to extol and to bless him who wrought all these wonders for our fathers and for us. He brought us out from bondage to freedom, from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning to a festival day, and from darkness to a great light so let us sing him the Halleluiah.
Passover Haggadah

In the New Testament
Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ. our paschal lamb has been sacrificed. Let us therefore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I Cor. 5:7-8

In the Christian Liturgy: The Easter Vigil Service
This is our Passover feast,
when Christ. the true Lamb, is slain,
whose blood consecrates the homes of all believers.
The Exultet

From the Fathers of the Church
Now turn from the ancient to the recent, from the figure to the reality. There we have Moses sent from God to Egypt; here. Christ sent by His Father into the world; there, that Moses might lead forth an oppressed people out of Egypt; here that Christ might rescue mankind who are overwhelmed under sins: there the blood of a lamb was the spell against the destroyer; here the blood of the unblemished Lamb Jesus Christ is made the charm to scare evil spirits.
Cyril of Jerusalem: On the Mysteries XI 9:3 (contd. p. 25)

SOURCE: EXODUS 19 - THE CROSSING OF THE RED SEA

In the Prophets

Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea.
a path in the mighty waters, Who brings forth chariot and horse, army and
warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they
are extinguished, quenched like a wick; Remember not the former things, nor consider the
things of old, Behold I am doing a new thing, now it springs
forth; do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in
the desert ...
Isaiah 43:16-21

In the New Testament
I want you to know, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptised into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same supernatural food, and all drank the same supernatural drink. For they drank from the supernatural rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ.
Nevertheless with most of them God was not pleased, for the were overthrown in the wilderness.
I Cot. 10:1-5

From the Fathers of the Church
When the people where set free from bondage in Egypt it was by passing through water that they escaped from the might of the king of Egypt and it was water which destroyed the king himself with all his forces. What type could be more clearly fulfilled in the sacred act of baptism? Nations are set free from this present world by means of water and they leave behind their former master, the devil, drowned in water.
Tertullian On Baptism CCLI 277-86

From the Jewish Tradition
The Holy One, blessed be he, does not rejoice at the downfall of the wicked. (Ex: 14:20) In that hour the ministering angels wanted to break forth into song. But God silenced them saying: "The work of my hands is drowning in the sea and you desire to sing songs before Me".
B. Talmud, San. 396
