The Editors
In the light of this discussion questions for future study were formulated as follows:(the words in brackets were added during small group discussions).
1. Since Vatican II the Catholic Church has become more open to other faiths and this is leading to a new sense of the word "mission" (Kingdom of God/Salvation/Redemption). In the light of this development how do we understand the role of Jesus (as Saviour) and of our discipleship today?
2. For Christians Jesus is the way of salvation. Yet they live in a pluralistic world. How can they respect the otherness of the Jews while searching for what unites them with and divides them from the Jewish People?
3. What is in continuity with Judaism and what is new and unique in the person of Jesus?
This could provide posibility for Jewish research in early rabbinic tradition.
(What are the consequences of this for our life, the dialogue and our joint task in the world?).
4. What is behind the concept of Redemption or Salvation in Jewish and Christian traditions?
How are the agents, or the agencies, of redemption conceived in the world, as we experience it?
What does this demand of Jews and Christians in their relationship and joint task today, (after the Shoah)?
5. If the Covenant with Israel has not been revoked, then how might the Christian teaching that all are saved in Christ, be understood?
6. How can the absolute claims made for Jesus in the Christian Scriptures be understood without negating the validity of other religious traditions?
7. The Poor — and Jesus: What does this mean in Biblical theology, in Jewish thought and in Christian theology?
8. Israel—persecuted, suffering and poor: Jesus, persecuted, suffering and poor; Humanity today... Are these related? are they the same, according to Christian convictions?
9. What does it mean to say "Jesus is the Way" — a) in a world where many non-believers are good, just and work for peace? What is specific in the Way of Jesus Christ?
b) What is the significance of Jesus as way, truth, life in relation to the Torah and for us today?
c) What does it mean that Jesus the Jew is Lord for Christians? What is their message to the world about this?
